ptech showcase

The VISD Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) will host a P-TECH Showcase on Tuesday, Jan. 25 at 5:45 p.m. at the Career and Technology Institute (CTI), located at 104 Profit Dr., for families and students to learn more about the pathways available and application process.

Eighth graders and their parents will learn more about the pathway options firsthand from P-TECH teachers and current P-TECH students. Administrators will share information about the application process, the lottery process, important dates to remember, and more.

If your child is interested in a P-TECH/ T-STEM pathway, sign up here. Students can also be considered for P-TECH/ T-STEM by indicating their interest on their eighth-grade course selection form. Any interest forms submitted after course selection will be placed on a waiting list.

In November, the Office of Innovation began recruiting efforts for the Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) pathways housed at Victoria East and West high schools.

Current P-TECH students, teachers, and Martin Sanchez, administrator of P-TECH, visited with eighth-graders at Cade, Howell, Patti Welder, and Stroman middle schools to share information about P-TECH pathways: Healthcare, Computer Science, Education & Training, and Texas Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (T-STEM).

T-STEM will also be discussed at the showcase. T-STEM is a new pathway geared towards engineering that will be available beginning fall 2022 at Victoria East High school. Read more about the new T-STEM pathway here.

About VISD’s P-TECH Programs

P-TECH Healthcare is housed at Victoria East High School. It blends high school and college coursework, providing students the opportunity to earn industry-based certifications (IBC) and earn college hours aligned to their post-secondary, at no cost to the student or their family.

During the 2021-2022 school year, the first cohort of students began the P-TECH Computer Science program and Education and Training program. Students earn a high school diploma and college credits with Victoria College which can be applied towards a bachelor's degree
