Victoria ISD is inviting early childhood students and their families to put their reading skills into action during the Spectacular School Reading Race, a family literacy event designed to make reading fun and interactive for Kindergarten Readiness..
The event will be held Thursday, Oct. 8, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Victoria Public Library, 302 N. Main St. It is open to ECSE, Pre-K and 3K students and their families.
Throughout the evening, families will work together to follow clues and complete challenges as they make their way through the reading race. The activities are designed to give parents and guardians simple, engaging ways to practice reading and early literacy skills with their children while spending time together.
In addition to the reading race, families can enjoy snacks, tours and a cooking class as part of the eveningโs activities.
Victoria ISD has hosted the Spectacular School Reading Race for several years as part of its ongoing efforts to support early literacy and strengthen connections between schools, families and the community. The event brings learning beyond the classroom by giving families an opportunity to practice literacy skills together in a fun, hands-on setting while also connecting them with community resources available to support their childrenโs learning.
Building strong literacy skills begins well before students enter kindergarten. Events like the Spectacular School Reading Race give families an opportunity to learn alongside their children and discover ways to continue supporting reading and learning at home.
