VISD celebrates volunteers

On Thursday, March 30, Victoria ISD hosted the VISD Volunteer Appreciation Carnival, inviting District volunteers and their families to join in an evening of fun, food, and family entertainment.

“We thought having a little family fun would be a great way to show appreciation to our district volunteers,” said Dr. Candace Pohl, VISD Connections Coordinator. “We value the time our volunteers dedicate to VISD and this carnival was a way to share recognition with their families.”

Eager to celebrate our volunteers who donate their time and talents to our district, departments and all of our campuses stepped up to the task by hosting a booth, providing a variety of snacks and activities. Families were able to play carnival games, have their face painted, pick a dessert in the cakewalk, jump around in a bounce house, hit a hole-in-one in mini golf, win a fish in a ring toss, match ducks to win a prize, capture memories in a photo booth, and snack on popcorn, pickles, sno-cones, and cotton candy.

“I have four boys in the district, one with special needs,” said Melissa Cantu, VISD Volunteers in Public School Liaison. “I’m very involved with him, so I guess that’s just my passion, to get other parents and other families involved. It makes such a difference for the kids to have their parents involved, and for the parents to help and get to know the teachers. It definitely makes a difference for mine.”

Everyone in attendance was also able to enjoy a hot dog dinner, and all of the food and activities were free for our volunteers and their families.

“I love to see all these families come out,” said Cantu “I hope it’s encouraging to other families that are thinking about volunteering to see that we truly do appreciate them and all the help that they do for staff and for all campuses and the district. I think it’s great.”

Thank you to all of the VISD volunteers for your dedication and commitment to VISD students.
